On May 10th, the Emilia-Romagna TSL hosted the TRANSITIONCAMP, organised under the TRANSFORMER project. The gathering focused on sustainable mobility and urban logistics, drawing a diverse group of experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to share insights on the latest strategies at local, national, and European levels.

Held in the heart of Reggio Emilia, the event highlighted innovative projects shaping the future of urban transport. Locally, the Municipality of Reggio Emilia presented initiatives like neighbourhood car sharing and electric cargo bike microhubs for last-mile delivery within its Limited Traffic Zone (LTZ), aimed at reducing congestion and promoting greener transport.

Nationally, representatives from the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport provided updates on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) across Italy. They also addressed a troubling trend: the Sharing Mobility National Observatory reported a decline in sharing mobility usage in 2023, signalling an urgent need to renew efforts to promote shared mobility.

At the European level, the TRANSFORMER project, alongside GRETA, highlighted transnational collaborations under the Interreg Central Europe program, pioneering new solutions for sustainable urban logistics.

Key takeaways emphasised the importance of integrating infrastructure with shared decision-making, essential for the strategic planning of urban nodes and unlocking new development opportunities. The event also underscored the critical role of boosting sharing mobility in urban centres to support the Green (Just) Transition and the need for robust collaboration among all stakeholders in urban logistics.

The event’s success was marked by a rich exchange of ideas and active participation from attendees with diverse professional backgrounds. A notable highlight was the introduction of the TRANSFORMER project's matchmaking tool, designed to facilitate connections and collaborations among stakeholders from different countries and sectors, further advancing the project’s goals.
